multimedia visual artist

About

Marcy Petit is a French interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans installation, lens-based media such as photography and video, performance, and textiles. Rather than committing to a single medium, she experiments with tools, materials, and processes, allowing each project to determine its own form. Medium becomes a language she selects and reshapes according to what she seeks to express. Guided by curiosity and research, her work evolves through exploration and transformation.

She studied Fine Art at the University of Rennes and earned a Master's degree in Contemporary Art Management from the University of Leeds and Paris 8. After living in the U.K. for many years, she now lives and works in San Francisco, California.

Marcy’s diverse practice critically engages with social, political, and cultural issues, with particular attention to gender, feminism, social or working class identity, and environmental concerns. Her works are often rooted in personal memory and familial histories, navigating themes of inherited narratives, reminiscence and transformation. Through these intimate entry points, she explores the intersections of popular culture, the female condition, and lived experience.

Informed by a strong ecofeminist perspective, her recent projects reflect an urgent engagement with landscapes and the natural world. Drawing on folklore, myth and esotericism culture as feminist and political tools, she weaves together art, magic, and activism. Through this synthesis, she challenges dominant narratives and invites viewers to reconsider their position within complex social and ecological systems.

Guided by her belief in the educational and transformative power of art, she creates accessible yet layered works that intertwine narration, truth, violence, and beauty. Influenced by poetry, writing, and theatre, she frequently incorporates textual and performative elements into her installations. She approaches her works as fragments, relics, or mementos—constructing and deconstructing narratives that blur the boundaries between the real and the fictional.

Having exhibited internationally, Marcy Petit continues to develop new bodies of work that foster dynamic conversations about the evolving relationships between art, society, and nature.
